A.R. Kane’s first full album, released in 1988 and coming after their initial series of intriguing and unusual singles, showed that the duo could maintain their sense of simultaneous mystery and fascinating catchiness, audible from the start with the shimmering, woozy but still precise “Crazy Blue.” Ranging from the slightly unnerving self-duet delivered on “Dizzy,” with more direct singing matched by buried shouts, to the dub-derived echo and sway of “Baby Milk Snatcher” and the stunning beauty of “Spermwhale Trip Over,” it remains a cryptic, compelling listen.
