Back to cinematic funk, symphonic soul and thematic grooves for El Michels Affair with 2020s Adult Themes, a collection of tracks that, as the album title suggests, sound as though they could have come from 70s erotic films soundtracks. It’s all languid, symphonic, instrumental soul with big, dramatic orchestration, funereal-paced funk snare patterns, Morricone-esque guitar lines and Isaac Hayes’ soundtrack-style horns and woodwind. With the tempo rarely getting above a sedate crawl this isn’t a funky-soul album, it’s all about the moods that a band can conjure when they mix cinematic arrangements with the audio vocabulary of a soul band. Quality, moody and ever-so-slightly twisted instrumental soundtrack-soul.
