Showing that age is no barrier to creative hunger, two journeymen musicians came together in the mid 2020s to become one of the great electropop duos of all time. Sean Dickson, of The Soup Dragons and The High Fidelity, and indie-cabaret crooner David McAlmont have both led extraordinary lives creatively and otherwise, never fitting into any box, which has kept both working hard and not resting on laurels – and clearly they recognised this in each other. This is their second LP together – the third, “Twilight” following just six months later – and it’s a gorgeous, utterly individualist but instantly accessible exploration of struggle and hope, which ends on the most extraordinary one-two punch of “Celebrate” and “The Show”, a finale that’ll have you reeling.
