Deceivers

Released

It took a couple albums for esteemed melodeath act Arch Enemy to find their voice with third screamer Alissa Gluz-White but on Deceivers they finally figured out how to wield her talents with military precision. A more versatile vocalist than predecessor Angela Gossow but not as feral, Gluz-White works best at transitioning from the shrieks to the Wacken-friendly singalongs — which she does with aplomb on stadium-pleasing anthems like “Handshake with Hell” and mid-tempo ground-shaker “In the Eye of the Storm.” Michael Amott and Jeff Loomis remain the most formidable guitar duo this side of Tipton/Downing.
