Horizontal Structures

Released

The second studio album and third release overall from the Moritz Von Oswald Trio expands on their basic sound in fascinating ways. This isn’t techno, it isn’t jazz fusion, it isn’t digital dub, it’s a unique combination of all those things, with some allusions to Wish You Were Here-era Pink Floyd thrown in. The core group — Von Oswald, Vladislav Delay, and Max Loderbauer, all electronic musicians and producers in their own right — is augmented by two key guests: Paul St. Hilaire on guitar, and Marc Muellbauer on upright bass. St. Hilaire’s contributions are small and subtle, but Muellbauer is a dominant presence at several points, particularly toward the end of “Structure 2.”
