J.S. Bach: The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I (Live in Troy, NY / 1987)

Released

Not to be confused with Keith Jarrett’s studio recording of these same works in 1988, this set documents a live concert he gave at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall the year prior to that album’s release. It’s a bit like a dress rehearsal, though his interpretation is clearly fully realized at this point. Bach on the piano is always a treat to hear, but in Jarrett’s hands the music is delivered with a particular limpid beauty.
