On The Cobbles

Released

His last studio creation, recorded hither and yon, with Danny Thompson back in the mix. The quality of this album suggests something about Martyn—that, despite his personal kamikaze mission and infinite failings, or because of them, he was tuned as an artist to all kinds of honesty. His decline seemed to fuel his perception, so this is an album about what remains as everything fails, equal parts fire and darkness. It sounds fabulous, and “Go Down Easy” is like old Martyn filtered through final Martyn. Really shockingly good.
