Psycho-Head Blow-Out

Released

Recorded live in producer Kramer’s Noise New York studio for budgetary reasons, this seven-track EP contains some of White Zombie’s best early work. Guitarist Tom Guay had a unique sound and style, filtering Seventies heavy blues-rock through Sonic Youth-ian dissonance, and drummer Ivan De Prume was the group’s MVP, laying down thunderous tom rolls and dancing across the cymbals. Bassist Sean Yseult was the music’s throbbing heart. Rob Zombie, still calling himself Rob Straker, hadn’t developed his gritty roar yet; he yowls like a large, wet cat. His image-focused, incoherent-but-cool lyrical style was coming together, though.
