Rec01

Collin Olan’s Rec01 was the Apestaartje label’s inaugural release. This single 17-minute track, originally committed to a mini CD in a square plastic sleeve, bears the fruit of meticulous trial and error. After freezing a waterproofed contact microphone inside a 10’ x 10’ block of ice, Olan submerged the ice in water and recorded it as it melted. Removing only digital errors leaves us with an alternate reality in a substance we’ve probably all crushed between our teeth as children. Memories of that feeling will surely emerge while experiencing this process from the inside.
