For Jon—whose name is often modified with “the dog” to disambiguate her from a million other lesser Jons—she loves dogs so much that she wanted to become one. The Tokyo-based musician whose real name is Shoko Uehara dons a full-body dog costume and sings off-key songs about dogs, accompanied only by a pump organ that you can hear shifting and creaking as she plays. It’s difficult to say if you’re in on a joke or witness to a spectacle by partaking, but it hardly matters; she’s having such a good time that you can’t help but crack a smile.
