Arguably, if unintentionally, the conclusion of T. Rex’s dominant string of albums, Tanx is a testing of the formula honed on Electric Warrior and perfected on The Slider; if Marc Bolan gets less credit than David Bowie when it comes to genre experimenting, his explorations here show that he wanted to change his approach up a bit. The band and key supporters like Tony Visconti did so with panache, with nods to country on songs like, but of course, “Country Honey” while delivering a striking gospel-tinged conclusion in “Left Hand Luke and The Beggar Boys.”
