The third album by Otherish (though the core band has played together since the late 1980s) feels like an unexpected message from a cascading series of lost times stranded in the 2020s, part dreamy early 1960s prom ballads, part mid-1960s suave pop, part late 1960s Beach Boys floating into the otherworld, part 1990s reappreciation of all that and more. The vocal harmonies unsurprisingly add to the engaging spirit of songs like “The Strange Rain” and “Void,” while some polite rock crunch on “Go Xenon!” and elsewhere adds a bit of bite to the atmospheres.
