My Little Yoni

Released

A charming early release on Move D and D-Man’s legendary Source Records, Yoni sees Thomas Melchior and Tim Hutton collaborating on an album of busy, yet fleet-of-foot IDM. Melchior hadn’t fully immersed himself in minimal house and techno yet, and while there are some hints of his later form, what’s here cleaves pretty neatly to the Source / Rephlex / Warp axis of producers – lovely, ear-aerating electronica, threading patterns around each other, tinny little synth lines or acid squelches brushing up against the insistent of their ‘not-quite’-dance-music rhythms, while handclaps are cryovac’d so they’re crispy and brittle. It’s lush stuff, even when it pares back to relative basics – Melchior and Hutton have a keen sense for textures that shine, crinkle and bristle.
