Qaidi is one of the most consistent and immediate albums in Lahiri’s immense discography. “Bongo Bongo” blends tabla drums with oceans of congas, and stinging fuzz guitar with Asha Bhosle’s soaring vocals. Even more novel is the surreal “Chandini Raat” which pairs a dream-state Bhosle with an acidic synth line. “Jawani Ka Khazana” is strobe-lit glam-disco. After this killer triptych, the energy dips somewhat, but it’s still one of Lahiri, and Bollywood Disco’s, greatest accomplishments.
